I’m Carrie, the C G of CG WoodCrafts. A former stable lass, turned bar wench, turned motorcycle sales lady, now pyrography artist and woodturner.
I left my career in sales when I became a mum to our eldest mini G. Since then I’ve enjoyed all that comes with being a Mum (of now two) – the good, the bad and the messy! Once school started though I needed something to keep me out of mischief and to be perfectly honest going back to the 9-5.30 grind after baking, adventures and playtime fun was really daunting.
Having always had a strong arty side I could feel a new career as a maker calling loud and clear. I’ve enjoyed creative hobbies right from way back when my mum taught me to knit and I’d make scarves for my teddies. Crafting and keeps me happy and when everything gets a little crackers it gives me the focus and calm I need. So starting a crafting based business was a no brainer.
Looking back the fascination for wood and woodcrafts has always been there deep down simmering away. Being drawn to carvings, ornate furniture, to the texture and feel of the grains. The spark really ignited while I was looking for handmade craft ideas for mine and Mr G’s wedding in 2011. Although I didnt get round to using any of it on the day I was hooked and my pyrography and wood craft journey started.
To begin with I crafted beautiful handmade gifts for family and friends, it was my daughter that gave me the final push I needed to create C G WoodCrafts and to evolve into what it is now.
So I put on my big girl pants and became my own boss, working 24 – 7 for myself, instead of 9-5 for someone else. I’m doing the job I love around my family and I still get to eat cake and have adventures.
I look forward to meeting you all at craft fairs and markets around Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
Thanks muchly
Carrie
