Meet the Maker

The CG behind CG Wood Crafts is me Carrie Gallimore, a self taught pyrography artist and wood turner based in Staffordshire, wearing the many hats of running my small business as well as being a wife and mum of two.

I’ve never been one for letting “but you’re a girl” get in the way of anything, having originally I studied horse breeding and equine sports science, with a brief stint working in Ireland, I enjoyed more than a decade in the racing industry as a stable lass in Lincolnshire.  Then I got bitten by the motorbike bug, switch four legs for two wheels and moved to Staffordshire with the future Mr G and after a time served as a bar wench I started a career in motorbike sales for two award winning Triumph companies (which I loved every second, I mean who wouldn’t love a job where you could ride different bikes, have your own staff bike, travel for bike launches and help people get on their adventures!)

After the mini G’s arrived it was time to make another change and what started as making gifts for friends and family grew into what CG Wood Crafts has become.  I’ve added new skills and techniques, adapted to become eco-conscious and have had the absolute pleasure of making beautiful bespoke gifts and personalised items that have been sent all to loved ones all over the world.

You can find me out and about at artisan markets, fairs and events across Staffordshire and Derbyshire as well as on social media and of course the website.  If you see me at a market, please come a say hi.  I always love to have a chat with people – that’s where I get my best ideas! – and to really talk about the processes and little stories behind each piece.  I try and source my woods as locally as possible from farms, my in-laws orchard, and other local businesses so there’s always an extra bit of character to each piece.
